Martins Prestwich Classic report
Martins Prestwich Classic report
After a quality weekend at the World Champ Qualifiers, everything was looking good for the last race at Peterborough for the Prestwich Classic. I'd replaced the shaft that had been in the boat since it was built in 2004 and everything was ready to go.
It was a fantastic autumn morning, the sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze. The 3.5cc race got underway, and moments later a problem occurred that was going to repeat itself to everyone throughout the day- LEAFS. I think that every single competitor was effected by picking up leafs on the the rudder and props, which meant that getting a high score for the money was more about how quick your pitman was, than your boat.
I pitted for my dad in the first of the 7.5cc races, where I think we were in and out probably 30-40 times to get them off. But he managed to keep going, with no throttling, and racked up a good score. I then followed in the second heat, but with the amount of leafs that I was picking up decided to call it a day early.
In the end the money went to James Taylor, who has had a very successful year racing. James is also going to be the 3rd person in existence to race with a LMRacing Wraith 7.5cc boat next year after a "surprise" qualification with the 7.5cc for the British Team.
Thanks go to the Peterborough Club for hosting the Classic again, and with talk of a bigger lake being available next year things are looking good for preparations for Hungary 2010
