So it was all about getting rid of the race rust.

Luckily for me my boat ran just like it did last year. The new lake at Peterborough was perfect preparation. It’s a huge lake with lots of space to make the most of a quick boat.

Had a great first run. The lake was so rough but I managed to keep upright for 20 mins. Job done. Decided not to race in the second heat, even though the lake was alot calmer.

The final was full of events! Leon and I made blinding started and were out first 1 and 2. I sat in behind Mr Morgan and we had a good mini race for a few laps till i had a very boggy lap. Brought the boat in, cleared it out and got back into the race a lap down, again just behind leon again. Then disaster for Leon as he hit a spinning boat ending his race. That left me leading again and setting some nice laps. Until a boat (think bright green) span just infront of me at top right. I had nowhere to go and hit it.

I lost a hatful of laps but made my way up to 3rd by the end. Setting a fastest lap a good second quicker than the rest in the process. All in all a great bit of prep for Hungary with just a few scrapes to mend.

The British Masters was the first race of my World Champ season, and the first race for my new boat. After arriving around 8pm on Friday, my first impression of the new venue were very good. The course was MASSIVE, with a little tweaking could easily handle a full Naviga course with room to spare, and camping option looked good as well.

Racing on saturday was all about putting a good, solid run together in race conditions. The one thing that we had not planned for was the change of wind direction, the result of which was a course that meant that there was absolutely no way of completing a lap without throttling everywhere. After a safe start from Phill and an engine that was running rich because of the new piston and liner, everything was going well. The boat seemed to be OK in the big wash and waves and I was clocking up the laps, until throttling back for a rescue boat at top left meant the boat bogged and stopped. We went back out again and circulated until the end, but I was happy with its first proper race.

The second race of the day was the polar opposite of the first, with sunshine and no wind. The result of which meant that everyone could finally race their boats properly. I got another good start from Phill, and put together some good lap times. As the race went on I could just lean it off a fraction as the boat responded in a fantastic manner, and thats how I ended the race. After the second heat was done, I was in P1 for the final and looking forward to a relaxing evening.

After a vodka Ahoy evening, we were all ready for the final in the morning and I was really looking forward to seeing the boat run with a full tank. The downside was that maybe I was a little too optimistic. Phill got me into the water in joint first, but got zero drive when I was there. Upon closer inspection, the gear carry had come loose on the gearbox shaft even though the two grub screws were still in place! I think that I'll be replacing the shaft to make sure that the two flats are perfectly in place. After the race I put the boat back together for a test in the lunch period, and found a bit more speed from playing around with the props and prop size. In summary I really loved the weekend, my boat went well went it went but maybe I should have cut back on the Ahoys!

A big thanks goes to all the people who helped to make the weekend happen, hopefully we'll be enjoying the LMRacing race at Elmbridge just as much.
After a fantastically sunny day on sat, a trip to peterborough was on the cards. With an engine with new bearing, piston and liner, and head it was going to be a nice relaxed session. Everything was going well, until two engine bolts came out, along with the spacers. After taking out the tank I managed to find the two bolts, washers, but only one of the spacers. With no spares it drew the session to and end. Knowing that I wanted to run in the engine before next weekend I needed to find a more local venue. Luckily that's where the club at Earsham ski club come. After rebuilding yesterday I had a very good session, with nothing going too wrong. The handling of the boat was spot on, like an evolution from the first boat, and the engine had loosened up by the end. All in all I'm looking forward to the British Masters, and really can't wait for the worlds!
After some sterling paint spraying from my dad, it was the time consuming task of putting everything together. The tabs all work, the servo linkages fit, and the shaft/cupling/gearbox run free and true. Hopefully I'll be able to get a shakedown run next weekend before the masters
After a mad few weeks at work I thought I needed a nice long, relaxing and sunny weekend somewhere. Oh and what a coincidence the Dutch regatta in Haarlem was that same weekend... Bonus!
I arrived Saturday afternoon to not be disappointed with the weather, to catch the end of the 1st 15cc heats and headed straight to the beer tent, where else! There was a great turn out this year, with about 200 boats entered, so there was a lot of catching up to do with friends.
The Dutch team put on a fabulous event, as ever, especially given the last minute events. The Shower and toilet block was victim to an arson attack on the Wednesday but Marcel amazingly managed to arrange toilets at such late notice.
Saturday night... Vodka Ahoy!
Sunday, I awoke quite late and a bit hazy but soon got down the lake to join the spectators at the lake side. Already there were a few people running the new CMB VAC 45 engine that was looking quite good but still a way off the well proven and developed RS.
Monday was the Finals and it seemed that reliability and endurance were a key factor for success this year, as in most the races, nearly 50% of the boats had stopped within 5 minutes and roughly only 25% completed the full 30 minutes. So looks like I will be going for slow and reliable for the WC’s ;)
Thanks once again to everybody who helped to run the event as smoothly as it was. Looking forward to Hungary even more now!
